Festive recycling tips

Zero waste Christmas message with homemade gifts

  • Foil from cooking turkey (cleaned), chocolate coins, mince pies etc. can be scrunched together and recycled in mixed recycling.
  • Lots of us are shopping online which means more packaging
    • Styrofoam and bubble wrap cannot be recycled and should go in the bin
    • Cardboard should be flattened and recycled
    • Soft plastics can be handed in at your local big supermarket
  • Christmas cards and wrapping paper can be recycled unless they are glittery or metallic (remember to remove tape first).
  • Broken fairy lights can be recycled at your local household waste recycling centre along with small electrical items (WEEE). Small electricals can also be donated to for refurbishment to help cut down on waste.
  • Broken baubles and drinks glasses cannot be recycled and should be wrapped up and put in the general waste.

  • Batteries - look out for a collection point at your local supermarket to recycle these.
  • Donate, sell or regift unwanted gifts.
