Community Grants Fund

South West

The total available for South West Community Grants Fund (CGF) in 2024/25 is £45,274.

The deadline for December applications has been extended by one week. Please apply no later than Monday 16th December 2024. There is currently a balance of £12,863.16 remaining in this area.

Awards made in Round 1 (2024-25)

  • Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust: £2000 (partial award) for consultation activities and events to assess community need and develop a future work plan for ongoing development of the canalside area.
  • North Merchiston Club: £3711 towards the purchase of equipment to enable improvements to the soft play facilities at North Merchiston Club, targeting children/families with additional support needs.
  • The Wee Haven Youth Project: £3696 to pay for free summer outings and events for young people in the SW CGF area as part of a summer youth programme.
  • Music in the Community: £2000 (partial award) towards resources and freelance musician costs (focusing on musicians from minority ethnic groups) as part of a festival with free events at Saughton Park this summer.
  • Longstone Community Council: £455 for installation of a bench top and planting up of the surrounding area at Redhall Park.
  • Castlerock Edinvar: £2000 (partial award) to clean up and re-paint the Calder underpasses together with street artists, local school pupils, youth groups and community based projects.

How we assess applications 

We check each CGF application for eligibility and will get back to you if any information is missing or unclear. 

Local funding panels meet to consider all eligible applications. The panels typically consist of ward councillors, community councillors and representatives from local community organisations. They look for evidence of how the project will benefit the local community, as well as accurate costings. 

They may recommend to: 

  • fully fund the project 

  • offer partial funding (provided the project can still be delivered) 

  • decline to recommend an award. 

Occasionally the panel will defer an application to gather further information. Recommendations from panels are then considered by the Head of Service for Community Empowerment and Engagement. If your request for funding is approved, you will be sent the formal funding agreement papers to complete. The whole process from applying to being paid a grant usually takes around 3-4 months, but sometimes it can be longer.
