UK Parliamentary Election 2024: Guidance on count procedures for candidates, election agents and counting agents

Security

Security provisions

Everyone attending the count will have to produce additional photographic identification to gain access to the count centre. This could be a bus pass, workplace ID card, photo driving licence, passport or student matriculation card. Failure to do so may result in a considerable delay to entry.

There will be a security search at the entrance to the Highland Hall at the Royal Highland Centre Centre. Please note that no alcohol is allowed on the premises. Please do not bring any baggage with you to the count venue. If you do it will be searched.

We recommend that you do not bring any bags at all into the venue.

We will be searching every bag that comes into the event. We have restricted the size of bags that are allowed in to help make this easier. Bags should be no bigger than A4 (maximum dimensions W21cm x H30cm x D8cm) and limited to one per person.

If for medical reasons there is a need for a large carrier/bag then this will be permitted but will still require to be searched.

Dependent on the threat level, you may also undergo a search as you enter - this may include the use of search wands.

Security staff will be visible and on patrol both inside and outside of the venue.

A network of CCTV cameras will be in place around the whole event site, these will be monitored from our event control room.

We have worked closely with the Police and other emergency services to plan a safe event for everyone.

There will be Police presence around the event and local area. There will be many other security measures that you can’t see.

Please note the following items are prohibited for this event

  • flags or banners of any sort
  • alcohol
  • sharp objects
  • aerosol bottles
  • liquids other than drinks
  • paint/powder based products.

Possession of these items within the count hall by any individual will be cause for immediate removal of the person concerned.
